UTM Dean's course

Harnessing Future Academic Leaders

A Warm Welcoming Message

by the Director

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and Good Day everyone,

Welcome to the inaugural UTM Dean’s Course! We are proud to welcome the 22 participants who have been selected for this first batch. The participants were selected according to their results in the Big Five Personality Traits test (OCEAN: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism). UTM Dean’s Course equips participants with knowledge and skills that will enable them to become competent Deans in the future. The program includes three modules that highlight competencies that are critical for a Dean and are offered in Phase 1 and Phase 2. Each participant is required to focus on a specific project that is aligned to any one of the eight strategic priorities in UTM’s Envision 2025, leveraging the knowledge gained in the three modules. The Project Action Plan (PAP) will be pitched to UTM’s top management in the third and final phase. I hope that this will be an exciting and inspiring program, that will also be a period of self-discovery, that will enable you to be the type of Dean that UTM will require in the future as we face challenging times brought by disruptions such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the COVID19 pandemic situation.

by Deputy Director

UTM Dean’s course is a program for senior academic leaders for their next role in leading an organisation. In this program we prepared three case studies that were developed in-house by UTMDeC’s facilitators who had vast leadership experiences as UTM Top Management including as VC, ProVC, Deans and Directors. We hope that the modules that we have prepared with much care will benefit participants of this course, enabling them to contribute further to UTM as potential future Deans.

A Brief Introduction

What is UTMDeC?

A program to prepare potential Faculty Deans in UTM.

How?

By strengthening their competencies through personalised coaching and modules prepared from introspective-retrospective reflections of previous Deans and leaders.

Workshop Objectives
  • Reflect and identify Challenges faced by UTM Deans (past, current and future)
  • Reflect and identify Competencies to be harnessed in potential Deans so that they would able to overcome these challenges.
  • Develop Training Modules that will prepare potential Deans.
