Innovation  Competition & Exhibition

NALI 2025

The Objectives

  • To recognize NALI research and innovation products in teaching and learning through exhibition and competition
  • To be the platform for sharing of research and innovation products in teaching and learning
  • To improve STEM awareness among educators in practicing NALI

Information

  1. The NALI 2025 Innovation Competition and Exhibition is open to qll Educators and Innovators.
  2. This competition covers but not limited to the following categories:
    • Teaching Delivery/Instructional Method/Pedagogy
    • Assessment
    • Curriculum Design
    • Student-Centred Learning/NALI framework
    • Micro-Credential/MOOC
  3. Since the theme of NALI 2025 is “Accelerating Innovation in Teaching and Learning with AI, submissions related to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are highly encouraged.
  4. The registered innovation must be new. If it has been submitted to a previous innovation competition, especially NALI, it must demonstrate a significant upgrade or improvement.
  5. Participants can represent schools, polytechnics, community colleges, universities or any educational institutions, including from industries and governmental agencies.
  6. Participants may choose one of the following modes of participation, both of which will be evaluated equally:
    • Individual
    • Team participation
  7. For team participation, teams can consist of members from different institutions.
  8. Participants are allowed to register more than one submission. However, payment must be made for each registration.
  9. Registration is only accepted after the participant has attached and submitted all three (3) required documents:
    • Extended Abstract
    • Poster
    • Proof of Payment
  10. To complete the registration, please ensure that the “Submit” button is clicked. Failure to do so will leave the registration status as “Draft”. The organizers will not be held responsible if this occurs.
  11. The deadline for registrations is on 1 August 2025 for early bird and 15 August 2025 for normal registrations.
  12. Participants (team leader for team participations) will receive an email as proof of acceptance of the registrations made.
  13. To register, simply follow the step-by-step guide in this tutorial video.
      1. Each participation is given a booth (1 unit table, 1 unit chair, 1 unit poster panel and a power source) to showcase their innovation.
      2. Participant has to prepare a poster (before the competition day) and present it at their booth for the innovation to be presented to a panellist of judges during NALI 2025.
      3. The poster needs to be printed out (own cost) and pasted at the booth before the Opening Ceremony on 7th October 2025.
      4. Content of the poster should contains the following information:
        •  Abstract
        • Innovation Objectives
        • Novelty (New Ideas)
        • Creativity (Design of Ideas)
        • Innovativeness (Changes/Improvement)
        • Applicability (Relevant to NALI)
        • Impact to Students’ Learning (Engagement and Empowering
        • Commercialization Potential
        • Awards Received (title of project, exhibition, and year)
      5. The size of the poster is A1. Download and use the poster template provided through this link HERE.
      6. Participant must provide suitable evidence of their innovation based on the criteria presented in the poster.
      7. Participants are encouraged to prepare additional materials such as brochures, pictures and certificates that support their project/innovation.
      8. Participants (or a minimum of one representative for team participation) must attend the competition in-person at the allocated time. Online presentations are not permitted.

       

        1. For NALI 2025 Exhibition and Competition, each participant is required to prepare an extended abstract.
        2. The format of extended abstract is as follows:
               • Length between 3-4 pages, including References and Acknowledgement.
               • Written in English / Malay.
        3. Please download and use the template provided HERE
        4. The extended abstract must be submitted during registration.

        NOTE: Please note that only a maximum of 10 authors will be accepted per submission. Any names beyond the 10th author will not be included in the NALI 2025 conference proceedings.

          REGISTRATION FEE AND PAYMENT METHODS

          Registration Fee

          1. Each submission is subject to the following registration fees:
            – Early Bird (26 May – 1 August 2025) : RM 300.00
                – Normal Price (2 August – 15 August 2025) : RM 350.00
          2. Registration is only confirmed upon:
            – Successful payment via the UTM PayHub system, and
            – Submission of proof of payment (receipt) through the NALI 2025 registration system.

          1. Payments can be made via UTM PayHub by clicking this link or scanning the QR code provided below.
          2. Follow the payment process as outlined in the payment guideline.

          Medal Postage Fee

          1. Participants can collect their medals at the end of the event.
          2. For participants unable to attend the Closing and Prize Presentation Ceremony, a postage fee of RM15 applies if they wish to have their medal delivered after the event.
          3. Please scan the QR code below or click here to make the payment. Include the recipient’s mailing address in the Remark section. This should be done immediately after the event ends.

          1. A physical judging process will be conducted on the competition day (7 October 2025) between 2.00 to 4.00 pm.
          2. A minimum of two (2) judges will visit and evaluate the innovation. Participants must wait and stay at their booth during the judging period.
          3. Normally, participants will be given around 5-10 minutes to present their innovation following by a detailed question and answer session. The duration of the whole process depends on the clarity of the innovation presented.
          4. Each innovation will be evaluated based on the following criteria, with the percentage of marks allocated indicated in brackets:
            • Extended Abstract (10%) – described and linked the subject and context or background to the purpose of the investigation in an organized, specific and concise manner.
            • Novelty (10%) – ideas in the project are original and beyond practise, manifested ideas in new and outstanding ways.
            • Creativity (10%) – design of ideas, redefines a whole new landscape of teaching and learning.
            • Innovativeness (10%) – changes/improvement, redefine a conventional teaching and learning task in a way that could create a novel experience.
            • Applicability (10%) – evidence of effectiveness and consistent application of NALI learning modes or materials.
            • Impacts to Students’ Learning (20%) – gave significant and sustainable impact toward student’s engagement and empowerment based on systematic measurements
            • Presentation (15%) – highly-articulated in presenting accurate information on the project, voice, eye contact and pacing held the interest and attention of the audience, smooth transitions with appropriate aids in delivery of the presentation.
            • Poster (15%) – excellent in terms of design, layout, content clarity and organization.
            • Upon evaluation, only innovations that meet the criteria and achieve the standards set by the organizers will be eligible for a medal (gold, silver, or bronze). Innovations that do not meet the standards will receive a participation certificate only.
            • The judges’ decision is final.

              We offer prizes that include:

              • Best of the Best Award – Trophy and e-Certificate – this award is presented to the overall best innovation.
              • Gold Medals – Medal and e-Certificate – this prize is awarded to the top 10 innovations.
              • Silver Medals – Medal and e-Certificate – this prize is awarded to the next 20 best innovations.
              • Bronze Medals – Medal and e-Certificate – this prize is awarded to the next 20 best innovations (after Silver).
              • Certificate of Participation – provided only to participants whose innovations did not meet the minimum standard set by the organizer.
              1. Voluntary Withdrawal
                Participants who wish to withdraw voluntarily must do so by 20 July 2025 by sending an email to nali@utm.my. A 50% refund of the registration fee will be provided.
              2. Forced Withdrawal
                Participants who fail to complete the registration process will be automatically withdrawn from the event. In such cases, only an 80% refund will be issued if payment have been made.
              3. No Show
                Participants who do not attend the event without prior notice will be considered a no show and no refund will be given.
