MOOC is a free Web-based distance learning program that is designed for the participation of large numbers of geographically dispersed students. The acronym MOOC is pronounced with a long “oo” sound, to rhyme with kook rather than book. MOOC was launched in 2008 and the term MOOC was originated out of the open educational resources (OER) movement.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM-MOOC) is one of the medium for UTM to be a globally-connected higher education player that is renowned for its academic and research expertise, particularly in niche areas such as Engineering, Technology and Research. UTM MOOCs used as a blended learning approach in higher learning institution to complement traditional teaching and learning methods. It is an innovative and competitive initiative to increase institutional visibility in the global higher education.

Credit Transfer with MOOC
Are you a UTM student who prefers to study online? If yes, UTM gives you the opportunity to acknowledge self-learning and you can apply for credit transfer in UTM!
Here is what you need to do:
- Earn a Certificate from any MOOC (preferably offered by UTM, edX, Coursera, or FutureLearn)
- Bring your certificate to your Faculty
- Take an evaluation test*
- Transfer your credit!*

MOOC Credit Transfer Fees
To apply for MOOC Credit Transfer, processing fee will be imposed to check for 80% course similarity with the once offered by UTM and for on-site proctoring arrangements by Faculty.
